Reditelj Bob Bajington gost 5. IndieBelgrade festivala

The multi-award-winning director Bob Byington is the Official Guest of the 5th IndieBelgrade - Festival of Independent American Cinema

At IndieBelgrade Film Festival 2018, the audience was delighted with the absurdist sci-fi comedy "Infinity Baby"- a story about a man who can’t achieve emotional maturity, told through a futuristic allegory where genetically altered babies don’t age. The director Bob Byington who has gained many fans in Serbia will be our Official Guest for the 5th-anniversary edition of IndieBelgrade.

This Austin-based independent filmmaker is one of the most innovative and unconventional directors with an uncanny ability to draw us into his distinct and absurdist comedy world. After emerging at the SXSW festival in Texas, and receiving the Annenberg Feature Film Fellowship at the Sundance Institute, he gained the admiration of the famous documentarian Michael Moore who screened Byington’s films at his Traverse City Film Festival in Michigan and presented him with the Stanley Kubrick Award for "bold and innovative filmmaking”. With his unique style and humor, Byington succeeded in conquering Europe when he won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2012 with his moving and surreal comedy "Somebody Up There Likes Me". His frequent collaborations with Jim Jarmusch's and Richard Linklater's European co-producers, as well as with the acclaimed actor Nick Offerman (Fargo), who acts in and produces most of his films, show that Byington has steady collaborators who believe in his immense talent.

His films, characterized by a playful philosophical mood, a supreme deadpan delivery and cynicism, feature renowned actors such as Jason Schwartzman, the Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis and Kieran Culkin.

Bob Byington arrives in Belgrade with his latest, award-winning film, "Frances Ferguson," a satire about a young substitute teacher whose marriage is so boring that she decides to destroy it by having an affair with her underage student.

The film possesses all the qualities of Byington’s unique style – self-irony, absurdist humor, an essay-like approach and top performances from both actors and non-actors – while always maintaining the aesthetics and spirit of independent film and artistic freedom.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet Bob Byington at IndieBelgrade Film Festival.
